Styles - Karate,
Training - 7yrs
I was first introduced into the sport of Karate by my son Todd who at the time was 5 years old. He wanted to do Karate so I took him to a local class. He joined the club soon after and having watched him for a year I thought to myself I would enjoy doing this, so I approached the instructor and asked if I was wasting my time taking up martial arts at the age 37 years old. My objective was to achieve black belt standard. The chief instructor said to me “you know there are no barriers you cannot overcome and that black belt level is obtainable if you work hard enough”.
I started training in earnest and was immediately bitten by the bug. Both myself and Todd started to go to 2 – 3 clubs a week throughout the North East to step up our training.
I obtained my black belt in June 2009 and was very proud of the achievement as it was hardwork but very rewarding.
Now both my sons Todd and Ryan are current members of the BMAKA and are doing really well. My oldest son is currently a junior black belt at the club and is working towards his junior instructor award and my youngest son is currently grading at 8th Kyu.
I have a large appetite for the sport and for the club and want to be a part of the success story for many years to come.
I have coached in various sports for many years and enjoy working with all levels of age and ability.
My inspiration for success and enjoyment in Karate is my chief instructor Dave Lancaster whose dedication to karate is second to none and also my son Todd who introduced me to Karate. I thank you both.
