Richmond, North Yorkshire played host to the 3rd BMAKA Nationals in October. Competitors travelled from across the country to compete at this ever growing tournament.
The junior sections were well attended with 20+ competitors in some categories making it a tough challenge for the few who skillfully won some of the great trophies up for grabs. It's alway great to see our juniors gaining experience and growing in the sport. All junior competitors received a certificate too.
Kata sections were well attended with again some tough competion for the top three spots. This year also saw the introduction of team katas which showed some great timing and precision.
The points fighting mens and ladies sections showcased a lot of skill and talent from all the clubs who entered. The mens executives were great to watch with all black belt entrants having just one point between them. A close but technical match by some experienced vets.
Light continuous saw a new junior cadet section which was popular as well as our ladies. A great effort from our ladies with Sarah from BKKA beating Michaela from York. The mens heavy and light weights were both tough sections with all fighters making it through to the next rounds having to dig deep into their reserves to prove who wanted the win more.
The winner of the heavy weights, Luke Barker (BKKA) met the winner of the light weights Rodney James (BMAKA) for the Grand Champion Trophy. The final was over 3 rounds with both guys having valiantly fought countless times already throughout the day. With a weight difference of nearly 30kg this was to be a mountain to climb for Rodney James. Both fighters fought well with Luke keeping a tight defence and Rodney precision picking his shots determined not to waste energy by staying too close to Luke. After three rounds it was an unanimous decision for Rodney James.
A big thank to all who helped judge and referee. To St Johns Ambulance for providing medical cover. To Didi and Heather for running the equipment stall and Debbie for providing refreshments. See you all next year!!!
