Profile - I decided to give martial arts ago in the early eighties, in those days it was probably the biggest growing sport in the country. I joined the Northern section of EWSKA; I initially trained once a week, but after losing my first competitive fight, I decided to improve my competitive skills, and stepped up my training by travelling to other clubs throughout the north of England that were affiliated to the EWSKA. I soon became successful at tournaments and increased my training still further by travelling to Sheffield to train with a former British and European champion. I was encouraged to attend England squad training sessions and was soon selected to represent the EWSKA National Squad. I competed in my first international tournament in Bermuda in 1993. I have since competed on three continents, in eleven different countries, including nine world championships in the USA. Coaching now takes up a lot of my time and I gain a great deal of enjoyment from watching my students become champions. I have improved my knowledge and coaching skills academically by achieving an Honours Degree in Sport and Exercise Coaching Science and a Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise; sports psychology based.
